On distraction and unappreciated art
I just started my next song on Spotify. It’s called...I don’t know, I have to check my phone. But I got a glimpse of the cover art, and it is a black and white photo of the Statue of Liberty, cresting over the adjacent body of water, the name of which I have no idea and don’t think I have ever known. The closest guess I would make, putting my New Jersey roots to shame, is the Hudson River, but my only other association with that, is a vague recollection of a plane crash.
The cover art looked beautiful to me. But I am too busy. I glanced at it. Thought “That looks beautiful. I am glad I ‘saw’ that. Maybe I’ll look at it later.” The latter words rang hollow to my subconscious the same way that when I used to retweet articles on Twitter or save to Instapaper and commit to reading them later, that I never would.
Oh, and what’s the song name? I don’t know. I am consuming art without knowing art. Was it always like this?
